Plaque 02 The payoff
Start your renewal well before the expiry date on your card, ideally several weeks ahead. A lapsed IRP can interrupt your work rights, complicate travel and later count against the continuous residence needed for citizenship.

First registrations and renewals in Dublin are handled by the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) office at Burgh Quay. Outside Dublin they are done through your local Garda National Immigration Bureau registration office. We book the correct one for your address.
Children under 16 do not register and hold no IRP card; their permission follows a parent. Everyone aged 16 and over must register in their own right and pay the €300 fee, so a family's real cost is the number of members aged 16 or above.
You may be out of permission, which can affect employment and travel and create a gap in reckonable residence. We can help you regularise quickly, but the safest course is always to renew before the card expires.
The registration or renewal fee is €300 per person for each year of permission, paid by card at the immigration office. Some categories, such as certain minors and qualifying EU family members, are exempt.
